This is one of life's great pleasures. To this day I still remember being at Tamaki Primary School in New Zealand and being transported by the smell of the pies arriving for school lunch, the aroma wafting down the hall and cutting through our attention spans like an oxy-acetylene torch applied to a block of butter.

Canned items can be eaten cold if there is no stove available and no way to start a fire. Soups are important and canned meats, tuna, beef stew will all round out the menus you can create. Some foods that are too high in calories or fat for everyday use are good for short term survival situations because they supply extra energy and feel wonderfully decadent in trying times.

Combine the brown sugar, bourbon, and chili sauce in a bowl and mix well. Stir in the sausages. Spoon the sausage slow cooker beef bourguignon mixture into a baking dish. Bake at 350 for 1 hr. or until the sausages are cooked through. Cut into bite sized pieces. Serves 40.

Shepard's pie is a one pan dish that can be prepared in advance and frozen. Defrost it in the fridge a day or two before you want to serve it, pop it beef for stew the oven before dinner, and you can have this comfort food any night of the week.

Cook briefly, until holes form in the injera and the edges lift from the pan; Do not let it brown, and don't flip it over as it is only supposed to be cooked on one side.
